Servicios de Mediación Intercultural y Comunitaria-Pego
Intercultural and Community Mediation Services (ICMS)
The Intercultural and Community Mediation Service (ICMS) is an initiative offered by the community of municipalities in charge of providing social services in Pego, l’Atzúbia and les Valls whose main objective is to promote intercultural coexistence among the different migrant groups and the host population.
The initiative aims at promoting the social inclusion of the migrant population by providing information and guidance on topics related to the access to all the available resources in the community, especially regarding the access to both public and private social resources in order to promote equal opportunities and intercultural coexistence.
In addition to offering personalized attention at its office located at C / Ramón y Cajal, 14 (Pego), the ICMS facilitates:
- Linguistic mediations in English, Bulgarian and Russian between newly arrived migrants in Pego and town hall technicians, school centres, health services and other public entities. Linguistic mediations in Arabic and French could also be arranged by appointment.
- Training courses for professionals on topics related to immigration, culture, communication and intercultural mediation.
- Activities and workshops aimed at school centres on topics related to sustainable development, ethnic diversity and intercultural education.
- Talks and workshops aimed at both local and migrant populations related to culture and intercultural communication.
The initiative is carried out by an intercultural mediator from the Association Babelia in continuous coordination with the community of municipalities in charge of providing social services, including municipal services, school centres, other public entities, associations and NGOs.
